A Jar in a Tree

Around the corner
There was a jar in a tree.
My eyes saw, but it didn’t register
Til I was a few steps past.
So I went back, not believing,
Because why would there be a jar
In a tree.
But there it was,
Suspended somehow,
Amid the sparse winter branches.
A small, cheery-brown, ceramic jar
Lying on its side,
About 12 feet up.
I looked for it the next day,
But it was gone.
